We are pleased to announce that our next free webinar, ‘Digital storytelling as a means to encourage students to write' will be held this coming Thursday 28th September 2017 at 3:15pm (GMT+2). Our speaker will be Fiona Beal, teacher, writer and ICT trainer from Cape Town. Fiona says: ‘On 8th September we celebrated UNESCO’s International Literacy Day and this year's theme is "Literacy in a Digital World“. The world is changing. The way we write is changing! This is where digital storytelling comes in. Digital storytelling is "using the tools of digital media to craft, record, share and value the stories of individuals and communities, in ways that improve our lives" (Center for Digital Storytelling). It can be described as a way of combining storytelling with a combination of digital images, digital text, audio narration, video and music, to communicate information about a specific theme or topic. Digital storytelling takes storytelling to a new height because it introduces our learners to exciting ways of presenting stories using more media than just pen and paper. It also enables them to present to a wider audience.

Summary: The world is changing. The way we write is changing! This is where digital storytelling comes in. Digital storytelling is a great way to give your students a creative way to tell their stories, and to get them to see the stories all around them in everyday life. In this webinar we will look at an overview of digital storytelling including how the Internet is changing writing. We’ll look at some key resources as well as useful free storytelling tools that one can use. Lastly we’ll discuss some simple ways of introducing digital storytelling in your classroom as well as some more advanced methods of creating a digital story. Perhaps you can share an idea or two of how you use digital storytelling in the classroom or in your life, if you attend this webinar?
